People are very excited about Elden Ring DLC next big update, Shadow of the Erdtree, especially since the PvP-focused Colosseum DLC just came out. Here’s a sneak peek at what to expect from this new addition to FromSoftware’s highly acclaimed game, which was announced almost a year ago.
Fans of Elden Ring want more after his huge success. The gaming community is full of rumors and is excitedly waiting For FromSoftware’s next move, which could be similar to the big DLC updates they’ve made for the Soulsborne series in the past.
The free Colosseum update marked the start of the next part of Elden Ring, and now fans are curious about what the next DLC will be like. That may now be clear, since FromSoftware has announced that the game will be getting a full-fledged update. When it comes to downloadable material, previous FromSoftware games have all done things very differently. However, things can change.
You should also think about the ends of The Elden Ring. Will the game take place after you become Elden Lord (or don’t become it)? Or, like some other Souls expansions, could the DLC give you access to new ends or just work on its own?
Based on leaks, rumors, and what FromSoftware and Bandai Namco have said so far, here’s what we know about the Elden Ring DLC.
As we talk about late-game and post-game material, there will be spoilers for people who haven’t finished Elden Ring yet.
Shadow of the Erdtree DLC
On his way to accepting the Game of the Year award for Elden Ring, Miyazaki said, “As for Elden Ring, we have a few more things we want to do.”
We now know that Shadow of the Erdtree will be the next DLC. It will probably continue the story of the game or add a new major questline to follow.
Lance McDonald, a data miner, says that Shadow of the Erdtree will be a big expansion, about the size of two different DLC packs. If this happens, the content will be about the same size as Bloodborne’s only DLC, The Old Hunters. That DLC changed the whole game and added a big new area to explore, new bosses, and story material.
He also says that Shadow of the Erdtree was chosen over a Season Pass for Elden Ring that was supposed to include several smaller DLC packs.
If Lance is right, this could mean that Shadow of the Erdtree is the only Elden Ring DLC, excluding the update for the Colosseum. The time it took to create gives this idea a lot of weight.
In an interview with the Japanese news site Game Watch in 2023, Yasuhiro Kitao from FromSoftware said that Shadow of the Erdtree was like Bloodborne’s “The Old Hunters” DLC. This is important because Bloodborne only had one DLC, but FromSoft made sure it was bigger than most DLCs.
There was more to The Old Hunters than just a new quest and map to explore. It changed the base game by adding new side tasks, NPCs, and a lot more. So, if Shadow of the Erdtree is similar to The Old Hunters in scope, we might get an expansion that changes or adds to the main game in a useful way.
Does the Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree DLC have a release date?
Along with smaller updates, the first big, probably paid, Elden Ring expansion DLC, Shadow of the Erdtree, is on the way, but FromSoftware hasn’t said when it will come out yet.
On February 28, 2023, a tweet told fans that Elden Ring DLC was being made, which was the first time Shadow of the Erdtree was seen. Some news sites thought the DLC was a completely new project because it started being made soon after the base game came out.
The game’s page on Steam was just changed for the first time since launch. This means that FromSoft is getting ready for Shadow of the Erd Tree’s launch, which could happen soon or in the future.
This could, of course, mean nothing at all. But it will only be a matter of time before the full Elden Ring development is shown.
Elden Ring DLC rumors & leaks
Also, after Shadow of the Erdtree, there might be more DLC. Here are some other stories going around the web, but we don’t know if they’re true or what they would look like. No, of course, none of these are true.
Thustmaster rumor
One tip says that Shadow of the Erd Tree will come out in February 2024 as a joint project between Bandai Namco and Thrustmaster. It will also come out with a new controller. We don’t think this leak is true after reading about it on Reddit. While anything is possible, this should be taken with a very large grain of salt.
New bosses leak
One of Elden Ring’s patches had information about possible new material hidden in its code, which was found by leaker Sekirodubi.
The update talks about up to 30 new bosses as well as new hairstyles and things. As many as 16 new non-playable characters (NPCs) or enemies called “Someone Yet Unseen” have also been found by the dedicated data miner.
Elden Dreams
As first reported by Eurogamer, data miner Lance McDonald has discovered that Elden Ring once Eurogamer was the first to report that data miner Lance McDonald had found that Elden Ring used to have items and tasks that required exploring the dreams of certain NPCs. It was cut from the main game, but it could still be used in DLC.
Something called Dream Mist is asked for by an NPC named Monk Jiko in the cut material. The player has to get into the NPC’s dreams to get it. This opens up a lot of creative options and lets players fight dreams along with the other scary things that live in the Lands Between.
Extended endings
Dark Souls, DS 2, and 3 were Bandai Namco’s last two games with FromSoftware. They both had DLC that added to the finish of the base game. Not only that, but it didn’t change or contradict any finish the player had already reached.
Dark Souls 2’s Three Crowns DLC added a new quest that could be accomplished after all three DLC packs were finished. This quest led to a different ending. Along with linking or refusing the fire, this one gave the player a third choice.
If you finished both Dark Souls 3 DLC packs, you got a bonus ending that could be used with any other endings you had unlocked by playing the base game.
In this one, the players could basically leave the dying world and go into a painted world. It will be interesting to see how the Elden Ring DLC changes the world or the different ends of the game.
Elden Ring DLC bosses
One demigod will get away from your round of deicide in Elden Ring, no matter how hard you try. That is Miquella the Unalloyed. When the credits roll, he’s still sound asleep in his egg.
This is Miquella, Malenia’s twin brother. She is said to be the most powerful god in Elden Ring. If this is true, then why don’t we fight him? One answer is that we don’t need to deal with him because we can get his shard of the Elden Ring dlc by killing his captor and half-brother Mohg the Lord of Blood. Even Gideon Ofnir tells us to leave Miquella alone, but was this really the best thing to do?
When it comes to Souls bosses, FromSoftware doesn’t mess around, so we think Miquella’s absence is on purpose. Let’s not forget that the god is sleeping in his egg to get stronger so he can fix his family, especially his sister, who has yellow rot.
When he wakes up, he’ll probably not be too happy to find that a new Elden Lord has killed all of his family, including Malenia. Miquella is now set up perfectly to be the main bad guy in any Elden Ring DLC. He is not only getting stronger, but he will also be angry at the Tarnished when he figures out what happen.
